Vitamin B5, also known as pantothenic acid, is a water-soluble vitamin with a chemical formula of C9H17NO5. It is named "pantothenic acid" because it is widely found in animals and plants. Since all foods contain vitamin B5, deficiencies are virtually non-existent. Vitamin B5 can be used as a color development aid in the food industry. Adding 0.01~0.022g per kilogram of meat can make the meat color good. It is also used as a food fortifier in bread, pastry and dairy products. Organisms can also transport vitamin B5 into cells through the Na+-dependent multivitamin transporter (SMVT, also known as pantothenate permease).
