P-aminobenzoic acid is one of the components of folic acid, which is an essential substance for cell growth and division in the body. It is very high in yeast, liver, bran, and malt. It is synthesized by the shikimate pathway via chorismate.
Colorless needle-like crystals. It turns light yellow in air or under light. Easily soluble in hot water. Used as reactive dyes and azo dye intermediates, organic chemical and pharmaceutical (carboxybenzylamine) raw materials, analytical reagents (copper test). Sunscreens can also be prepared.
