Citronellol is an organic compound with the chemical formula C10H20O. It has a bitter taste and is slightly soluble in water. The natural essential oil contains right or L-citronellol and its racemate. D-citronellol is mainly found in rue oil, citronella oil and lemon eucalyptus oil; L-citronellol is mainly found in rose oil and essential oils of geranium plants. Both are colorless liquids with a sweet rose fragrance, and the aroma of the left-handed body is more elegant than that of the right-handed body. Citronellol is more stable than geraniol, and citronellol is dehydrogenated or oxidized to generate citronellal.
