β-carotene is widely used in food industry, feed industry, medicine and cosmetics industry. The methods used to obtain β-carotene include natural extraction, chemical synthesis and microbial fermentation, etc.
Beta-carotene, whose name comes from the Latin word for carrot, is an orange-yellow fat-soluble compound that is a precursor to vitamin A. It is found in abundance in plants and gives fruits and vegetables their vibrant color. β-carotene is widely used in common food and health care products due to its functions of coloring, anti-oxidation and nutritional enhancement.
