Dimethyl curcumin is a chemical substance with the formula C23H24O6.
Dimethylcurcumin (development code ASC-J9) is a non-steroidal antiandrogen and synthetic curcuminoid developed by AndroScience Corporation as a topical treatment for acne vulgaris. Muscle atrophy and wounds, but no progress was reported for these indications. There is also interest in the drug as a possible treatment for prostate cancer. As of 2017, it is in a phase II clinical trial for acne vulgaris. Dimethylcurcumin is an androgen receptor (AR) inhibitor that, at sufficiently high concentrations, exhibits potent and specific antiandrogenic activity in vitro (eg, against LNCaP cell growth). However, its mechanism of action and actions differ from traditional antiandrogens; instead of being an antagonist of AR, it appears to act as a selective degradation enhancer of certain subpopulations of AR, such as those present in the prostate ( SARD).
